They were all to accomplish this work according to the pattern which The LORD had laid down (v1). No question of making it up as they went along. The LORD laid down the plans and they were to be followed meticulously.
Moses called Bezalel and Aholiab and all the gifted workers who had been inspired by The LORD with wisdom and who were willing to work, to come. They received from Moses all the offerings brought by the people and the people continued to bring offerings freely (v2,3). Work now commenced to build the tabernacle and furnishings.
The people kept on bringing but there was more than enough, and the workers told Moses (v4-7) who commanded the people to cease, and he had to restrain them. When God moves people to give there is always enough and sometimes more than enough. This was God’s doing, not man’s doing. It is important that we move at God’s time. Those who had been reluctant to give at first now missed out on the joy of giving and being part of it.
From this point in the book and almost to the end of it details the building of the tabernacle and its furnishings. It must be noted that the plans were God’s plans and had to be followed to the letter.
It starts with the curtains and their artistic design of which there were ten, all the same size. (v8-13). Then the curtains of goat’s hair, eleven (v14-18); ram skins dyed red and badger skins (v19). All according to the pattern laid down in chapter 26.
In verses 20-34 we have the putting together the boards and connecting bars for the frame and walls of the tabernacle. All this was to be done according to the pattern laid down to Moses recorded for us in 26:15-30.
This was followed (v35-38) by the veil with its four pillars and the screen with its five pillars according to the pattern given by God to Moses in 26:31-33,36,37.
If we are building or extending our property, we have to have plans, and they have to be approved by the appropriate authority. This building and all its furnishings were speaking because it was planned and directed by God Himself, and they were to follow those instructions to the letter.
