Genesis is the book of beginnings and begins with God. A presumption that God exists. Many do not believe in God or that He even exists. If you are going to believe what the Bible says you must believe that He exists because it is about Him from beginning to end. Many would say that that is why they don’t read it. I know that there are many wonderful stories in the Bible and people may read them especially to our children, but let’s go further than that and seek to know what God’s saying to us. The apostle Paul wrote to Timothy – 2 Timothy 3:16,17 “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
Many today mock and ridicule the Bible and those who believe in it, but God has been changing lives through His Word, whether spoken or read, since the dawn of creation. Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
If we look at history in the Bible, we find it is true; the events actually happened as described.
If we look at biblical prophecy, it is true; the events described will come to pass, just as it was written.
If we need instruction, we will find it is correct and true and tells us the will of God and the best way for us to live. It is full of wisdom and is exactly what we need.
I am not going into detail about the Bible, how we got our bible, the books etc., because far more gifted people have written about these things – my good friend Brian Edwards, particularly in ‘Creation is it true series’ and ‘All you need to know about the Bible’ published by Day One, has far more ability than me and I would suggest you read his books. I am only skimming the surface as a simple man on a walk through the Bible.
If one is prepared to look at the Bible and open its pages, one can read that God shows His very existence through the creation – Psalm 19:1-4 “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world”. Romans 1:20 “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.”
I believe that the book of Genesis is referred to nearly 200 times in the New Testament and Jesus said in John 5:46-47 “For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me. But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?” We cannot say we believe in Jesus if we don’t believe in the Book of Genesis. There is ample evidence that Moses authored the book (Luke 24:27 and 24:44).
